Before any dance or other workout sessions, it’s essential to prepare your body beforehand. Setting aside time to warm up allows the heart rate and blood flow to gradually increase, rather than all at once. Starline Baton, specializing in baton twirling, would like to help you prepare your body and prevent injury risks by showing how to correctly warm up.
- Start Gently: Begin with simple stretching exercises, such as rolling down the spine and rolling your head, shoulder, wrists, and ankles. Going right into the more rigorous exercises is never a good idea. Not only does skipping warm ups make you sore more easily, but it makes you burn out more quickly.
- Increase Body Temperature: Increasing body temperature is key to giving a great routine from start to finish. Performing any of the following exercises for five to ten minutes should do the trick:
- Brisk walking
- Jumping jacks
- Light jogging, marching, or skipping
- Lunges across the floor
- Fully Body Movements: The next step would be to spend five to ten minutes of completing lengthening, full body movements:
- Large arm swings with torso twisting
- Leg swings standing or leg-drop swings while lying on the floor
- Bending forward, backward, and sideways
- Dynamic series of yoga poses
- Core and Stability: Although this step is optional, we highly recommend you to finish your warm up with one of the following techniques:
- The Pilates Hundred exercise - Pilates is recommended to get your blood fully circulating before your workout or session.
- Bartenieff Body Half - Bartenieff’s Basic Six is an impressive series to warm up with.)
