Just like all of your other twirling gear, including your costume, boots, and tights, it’s important for you to find the perfect baton fit for your stature. Not only will the right size baton make twirling easier and more fun, it will also potentially prevent any accidents or slip-ups. So, let’s get started! All you need to find your baton measurements are a tape measure and a friend.
The size of your baton relies on your height and arm span. High-quality batons, such as the ones you’ll find at Starline, come in a wide range of lengths and styles, generally ranging from 14 inches to 32 inches in 1-inch increments. To find your own measurements, stand straight and stretch out your arm, making it parallel to the floor. Have your friend use the tape measure to calculate the length from the base of your neck, just above your shoulder, to the tip of your middle finger. If your measurement falls between inches, always round up. Voila! You’ve just found your perfect baton size.
If you’re purchasing a baton as a gift for a friend or a family member, however, you may not want to give away the surprise by asking for their measurements. While a guesstimate won’t be quite as accurate as our measurement system, you can base your selection on the twirler’s height and age. Twirlers between 1 and 4 years of age generally need an 18-inch baton; from 5-7 years, try 20 inches; 8-10 years, try 22 inches, and so on. Just in case, be sure to keep your receipt and the original packaging if you have to re-measure and get the right size.
Now that you know what size baton you need, you’re ready to start twirling. For more great tips, be sure to browse through our blog. Contact Starline Baton at 931-528-7829 to learn more.
