After years of teaching baton twirling, you may notice that you’re hearing a lot of the same songs or seeing very similar performances. So, how do you make sure you don’t do the same thing over and over for your own classes? Try changing up the theme! Here are a few ideas to get you started: Fantasy What does fantasy mean to you? Dragons and wizards? Fairies and elves? There are several areas to explore within the fantasy world. As you get to know your students, it will be pretty clear whether they want to play the princesses or the knights in shining armor. Fantasy themes are sure to impress with all their colors, sparkles and otherworldly wonder. Male Origins of Baton Twirling The origins of baton twirling have been reported to have come from a few different places. Some say twirling began among warriors on the Samoan Islands. Others say that Swiss flag twirlers inspired the sport. In America, the first baton twirlers juggled heavy batons while leading marching bands.
