The sport of baton twirling requires flexibility in order to successfully execute moves in your baton twirling routine. You can’t become flexible overnight, but with patience and time, you will soon become limber. Stretching not only helps you to be able to perform skills in your routine, but also it prevents muscle injury from over-exertion.
Start by doing stretching exercises everyday. Begin with low-impact stretches and work your way up to a full stretch workout. When stretching, don't bounce. This puts stress on the joints and muscles, and may tear your muscle fibers. Instead, stretch slowly and breathe through your movements so that they are executed in one fluid motion. The more comfortable your body becomes with each stretch, the more you can push yourself later on.
As with any athletic activity, do not start a practice session without proper rest, nutrition, and warm up preparation. A healthy body will lead to more successful athletic activities, such as a more effective stretching session.
